Five Stage Bfbs Port Restart Procedure

Brief procedure for Experts:

  • Step 1 release the ports from Quentin Control.
  • Step 2 reboot the ports from rmon.
  • Step 3 telnet to ibisa and restart the ports.
  • Step 4 in Pres Suite Landcape schedule restart.
  • Step 5 repeat all the above if it does not work.

Extended procedure for Noobs:

Step 1:

In the machine room Bfbs Monitoring bay J17 on the router panel, select destination CARMON and source TxSvr, 1 or 2, 0 or 1 or 2 or 3. This will display the currently loaded video on that port. In the machine room Bfbs Kvm bay G22 go to kvm 3 (alt tab 3) check if Controller is open, if not open it (shortcut on the desktop labelled Quentin Control). Along the top of the window that opens left click on the System tab. In the Servers Name frame Tx1 and Tx2 are the names of the servers we are interested in. Clicking on these names will list all the ports currently in use by the server in the Port frame.

Whether it is Tx1 or Tx2 in the frame at the bottom of the window the ports are listed as qnx1:0 or 1 or 2 or 3.

Double left clicking on the required port opens a dialogue box “do you want to release the port called qnx 1:0 or 1 or 2 or 3?”.

Click YES and the port will disappear from this list.

Check the CARMON, you will see the video has changed to colour bars.

Repeat for the matching second port against the other Tx server.

Step 2:

At the above kvm ctl alt 1 to get to RMon server.

In the serial comms window labelled Tx1 or 2 _Serial_1_(CPU) press return a few times and check what you get at the prompt. It should display “Drv.Prt >” If not type Drv at the prompt > and then Port at the Drv > prompt and you get to Drv.Port >.

Now type in Reboot 0 or 1 or 2 or 3. Repeat the above rebooting the same port number as for the first tx server on the second tx server.

If you go back to the CARMON you will see the output has gone to black during the reboot. Observing at the RMon window you will see a message eventually that shows the reboot is completed.

If you now check on CARMON you will note there is a black and white type graphics image with some writing on it etc. Check both.

Step 3

On the IbisServ Mirror pc in the centre of the Ingest desk click on start, run, telnet ibisa.

In the command line window that opens and at the login prompt type maint then demo as the password. From the menu that prints out type in 13 and now be careful to count on your fingers to make sure you restart the correct port. Tx server 1:0 or 1 or 2 or 3 is 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 and Tx Server 2:0 or 1 or 2 or 3 is 5 or 6 or 7 or 8.

  • Restart the main, backup and main again

Observing on the large monitor in the Ingest area the graphics type display will go to black then colour bars then either black or the first frame of the next video queued for this port. Repeat for the second port, the same should be observed. Close the command prompt telnet session to ibisa.

Step 4

Go to the Pres Suite and ask the Tc to do a Landscape restart. This does not affect the current on air ports.

Observing on the large monitor in the Pres Suite you should see the images on the ports clear after 5 seconds or so then the first frame of the next item should appear on both of the ports.

Step 5

If the last step in step 4 does not work and the Tc is unable to get the ports to work then repeat the whole procedure until it does.

It has in the past taken up to 6 attempts to get the ports to reset. Finally ensure you have closed the telnet session to ibisa and the Quentin control window.
