proxmox:qdev

To install a Proxmox QDevice (Quorum Device) on TrueNAS SCALE, the most stable and “native” method is to use a Sandbox (Jailmaker). This keeps the host OS clean while allowing you to run a standard Debian/Ubuntu environment where corosync-qnetd can reside. [1, 2] Step 1: Create a Sandbox on TrueNAS SCALE If you haven't already, install [jailmaker](https://github.com/Jip-Hop/jailmaker) (a popular tool for managing LXC-like “sandboxes” on SCALE). [2, 3]

 1. Open the TrueNAS Shell and navigate to your pool:

 cd /mnt/<YOUR_POOL>/jailmaker/

 2. Create a new sandbox (e.g., named qdevice):

 ./jlmkr.py create qdevice

 Choose Debian or Ubuntu as the OS when prompted.
 3. Start and enter the sandbox:

 ./jlmkr.py start qdevice
 ./jlmkr.py shell qdevice

Step 2: Install QNetd in the Sandbox Now that you are inside the container/sandbox:

 1. Update and install the daemon:

 apt update && apt upgrade -y
 apt install corosync-qnetd -y

 2. Enable the service:

 systemctl enable --now corosync-qnetd

 3. Set a root password (Proxmox needs this to push certificates via SSH):

 passwd root

 4. Allow Root SSH Login (temporary requirement for setup):
 * Edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set PermitRootLogin yes.
    * Restart SSH: systemctl restart ssh (or sshd). [4, 5, 6, 7, 8]

Step 3: Link to your Proxmox Cluster [9] Go to any Proxmox node's shell and run the setup command, pointing it to your TrueNAS sandbox IP. [7, 9]

 1. Install the client on all Proxmox nodes:

 apt update && apt install corosync-qdevice -y

 2. Initialize the connection from one Proxmox node:

 pvecm qdevice setup <TRUENAS_SANDBOX_IP>

 Follow the prompts to accept the SSH fingerprint and enter the root password you set in Step 2.

Step 4: Verify Quorum Check the status on your Proxmox node: [7, 10]

pvecm status

Under Votequorum Information, you should now see 3 total votes (2 nodes + 1 QDevice), ensuring your cluster stays online even if one Proxmox node fails.

Pro-tip: For the best stability, ensure your Sandbox has a Static IP so Proxmox doesn't lose the connection after a reboot. [8, 11] Do you need help configuring a static IP or automatic startup for this sandbox on TrueNAS?
