Moving server to esxi
Prepare migration server
- build 64 bit server with nas4free. 9.2.972 not not 9.3
- install virtualbox bits if possible under 9.2
- move servers onto it
Prepare existing server
- stop cron jobs on transcode server
- stop cron jobs on nas4free
- uncheck “empty trash” on plex“
- Copy cron jobs into files
- Copy THIS page into laptop
Backup existing server
- copy films
- copy media
- copy data
- copy users
- copy backups
- mount media as shares
Move server to Bench
- install raid card
- install usb/sata card
- install 128gb ssd externally
- install 32gb ssd onto ODD port
- connect drives to new raid card
- set up raid
- install latest esxi 6
Test prior to committing
- Can it do pcie card passthrough allowing esata and usb3?
- Can it write at over 50MBps
Move server to roof rack
- Copy windows 7 VM into esxi and start up
- Copy owncloud VM into esxi and start up
- change locations in plex to match new server name
- install raid software
- install ups software
- start copying media back
- set up file shares
Move machines
- Convert mail, efw25, virtualbox images into esxi
- Move owncloud VM into esxi (already a vmdk)
- Install tinylinux as squeezebox server
- shutdown old virtualbox
Tidy Up
- Re-enable trash emptying on plex
- Re-enable crons jobs
- Recreate scripts from nas4free onto transcoder server
